JEE – Mains
The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is an engineering entrance assessment conducted for admission to various engineering colleges in India. It is constituted by two different examinations: the JEE Main and the JEE Advanced.
The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) conducts the joint admission process for a total of 23 Indian Institute of Technology campuses, 31 National Institute of Technology campuses, 25 Indian Institute of Information Technology campuses and 19 other Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs) based on the rank obtained by a student in JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. There are some institutes, such as the Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs), the Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE), the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT), the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), which use the score obtained in the JEE Advanced examination as the basis for admission.

Structure
The examination consists of only two papers:
- Paper 1 for B.E./BTech courses
- Paper 2 for BArch courses
- Paper 3 for BPlanning courses.
NOTE : A candidate can opt for any or both the papers. Paper 1 is mandatorily a computer based test (called Online mode)

Mode of Examination
B. E./ B. Tech. (Paper 1): Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics – parts 1, 2 and 3 respectively – are conducted in Computer Based Test mode only.
B. Arch. (Paper 2): Mathematics and Aptitude Test – parts 1 and 2 respectively – are held in Computer Based Test mode only, while a Drawing Test – or part 3 – is in offline mode – on a drawing sheet.
B. Planning (Paper 3): Mathematics, Aptitude Test and Planning Based Questions – parts 1, 2 and 3 respectively – are held in Computer Based Test mode only.

Eligibility Criteria
1.
Age Limit
There is no age limit for aspirants appearing in the JEE Mains 2026.
2.
Year of appearance in Qualifying Examination
Candidates who have passed their class 12 examination or any equivalent qualifying examination.
Those who are appearing in their class 12 examination or any equivalent qualifying examination in current year are also eligible to appear in January and April Session.
Candidates who passed class 12th/qualifying examination before the last year as well as those who will appear in such examination after current year are not eligible to appear in JEE Mains.

Qualifying Subjects
Candidates must have taken at least five subjects in class 12/qualifying examination to be eligible.
4.
Qualifying Marks
To appear in JEE Mains 2024, the minimum qualifying marks for admission to NITs, IITs, SPAs and CFTIs have been scrapped.
- Candidates should be in the top 20 percentile in the class 12 exam conducted by respective boards.
- For reserved candidates, the minimum qualifying marks have been scrapped.
5.
Total Attempts
A candidate is allowed to attempt the exam for three consecutive years.
The number of attempts will be two in total a year.
